Summer is definitely around the corner, with the days getting longer and hotter it is crucial to remember to be sun safe when out and about. The team here at Mathiou Services take their sun safety very seriously and we want to share with you some of our go-to tricks and tips to keep you out of harm’s way this summer.
Tip One
One that may seem obvious but one of the most important tips when you’re planning to go out is to put on that sunscreen. But what most people often forget
with sunscreen is to constantly reapply it throughout the day. A tip we recommend is to keep your eye on the time by setting reminders on your phone or using the timer on your watch to help remind you when you need to reapply. A crucial step to preventing serious skin damage and aging from the sun.
Tip Two
As sunscreen acts as a barrier from the sun choosing the right sunscreen is very important to ensure maximum coverage. We recommend it is best to use a broad spectrum sunscreen, this will protect you against those harsh UVB and UVA rays. You will also need to be aware of what SPF sunscreen you are using. As children have such soft sensitive skin an SPF 30 or higher is recommended and for yourself an SPF 15 and higher.
REMEMBER the sun is at its strongest between 10 am and 4 pm
Tip Three
The dos and don’ts in what to wear to keep you protected from the sun. Now that you have chosen the right sunscreen it is important to also dress to the conditions, dark and tightly woven clothes help prevent the sun burning you as well as wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses. If you’re swimming make sure you cover up as soon as you emerge, or wear a shoulder covering top or rashie to swim in. Covering up will help keep the sun off your skin and prevent any burns or skin damage from occurring.
Tip Four
People often forget that although they are covered up, the sun can make you quite dehydrated and tired. A tip is to try and stay in the shade and out of the sun as much as possible if there is no shade try and remember the rest of our sun safety tips and to stay hydrated with water to ensure you are being as sun safe as possible.
Tip Five
If all else fails and you end up getting burnt by the sun a great remedy is to use an aloe vera spray or gel, this will help sooth the sting of the burn and help moisturise the skin so the burn doesn’t peel as badly. Moisturisers kept in the fridge also help to create a quick relief to soothe the burn.
We hope our team at Mathiou Services has given you a few little tips and tricks that will keep you safe when in the sun this summer. Remember to Slip, Slop and Slap this summer!
